Secondary School

At AHS, our Secondary students follow the British Curriculum and sit the International General Certificate in Secondary Education examinations (IGCSE). As we are a small school, we have partnered with the online International Cambridge accredited school, Wolsey Hall, in order to offer specialised Secondary education.

The Secondary school is comprised of two main Key Stages:

Key Stage 3

Years 7-9 (ages 11-13)

Key Stage 4

Years 10-11 (ages 14-16)

Blended Learning

Learning in KS3 is through a blended approach where students study in school with a set timetable, which incorporates the core subjects and individual subject choices, as well as PE, Indonesian and PSHE. Core subjects and chosen subject work will be set and moderated by specialist teachers in the UK, while being supported by a member of staff in the classroom at AHS. With this style of learning, we can offer a wide range of subjects which fit the needs of our students, with qualified specialist teachers.

Each child will follow the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science, and will have the choice of 2 other subjects from the following areas:

Art and Design

Global Perspectives

International History

French, Spanish or German

This blended style of learning is designed to encourage independence and confidence in students as they move towards taking their IGCSEs.

Cambridge International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE)

In KS4, students continue with our blended learning approach, following and sitting the Cambridge International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) courses. The Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular International curriculum and is recognised worldwide. These courses are designed to be challenging and engaging as well as academically rigorous. Students will take the 3 core subjects of Mathematics, English and a Science (we recommend Combined Science as it is a double subject) as well as 2 or 3 other additional specialty subjects.

The specialty subjects offered by AHS are as follows:

Business Study

Combined Science

Computer Science

English Literatures

Environmental Management

Foreign language French, Spanish or German

Additional Mathematics

Throughout the whole of Secondary school, students will have access to a free online library with hundreds of fiction and non-fiction books to choose from, as well as being able to connect with other students around the world.
